Spray Foam: Hire a Professional or DIY?
Steve recently wrote an article about the energy efficient benefits of owning a small house. In his article “Small Houses Deliver Big Value” he provides tips on how to effectively insulate small houses for the maximum benefit.
“Spray foam is more expensive than other insulation options, but it yields a home that uses roughly half the energy of otherwise identical structures. Foam application can be contracted out to a professional, or you can do it yourself with a spray kit. I’ve used Tiger Foam (888.844.3736) in the past with great results. The smaller the house, the more sense it makes to do the work yourself.”
So if you are air sealing part of your home or your entire small home, DIY may be most cost-effective for you. DIY spray foam is also very popular for use at the cottage to maintain the internal temperature and reduce moisture.
